Miney and Moe are doing well a week after they were de-clawed and neutered.
The vet clinic I took the kitties to has been awesome. They have followed up with me quite a bit - one phone call was from the vet himself and not his receptionist. I thought that was nice. It amazed me how much all of this "fixing" stuff cost. But now they are all caught up on their vaccinations and the procedures are over and done with. They are doing just fine.
While the kitties were under anesthesia, I had the vet microchip them. Whoever came up with this is a genius! Basically the vet places a really, really small microchip under the pet's skin. The company gives scanners to pet shelters and pounds at no cost. If a pet is micro-chipped, they simply run the scanner over the pet and the owner's name and phone number pop up. Then they call them and they get their pet back! I don't plan to let Miney and Moe out of the house unless they are in their travel box, but just in case they end up running through a door left open by our resident two year old, we have a better chance of finding them if they do get out.
We have had to use a special kind of kitty litter for Miney and Moe this week because of their sore little paws. I thought it was going to be worse than what it was. It does not hide the odor as well as the clumping litter, but I just scoop it out more regularly.
I feel bad that we had them de-clawed, but with kids in the house it really was the only way. They are very sweet little kitties, but the thought of them getting angry when the Knight squeezes them a little too tight and then scratching his little face is unbearable.
Yes, it hurt them to be de-clawed, but in return they get to be pampered and loved for as long as they live. :)
